Next exhibition in 2012

Launched in August 2010, the Marrickville Women’s Salon is a biennial selective-intake exhibition showcasing the works of contemporary female artists living or working in Sydney’s Inner West area, NSW Australia.

In an exciting opportunity for the public to access a diverse range of contemporary art works under one roof, this group exhibition of mixed media and mixed disciplines
is an engaging look at the current face of women’s visual art practice in the mediums of painting, drawing, printmaking, photography and sculpture.

The MWS exhibition provides a unique opportunity for emerging and established female artists to network with their peers and community in an enriching, cultural exchange.

Representing over 40 female artists of Sydney's inner west

Selection of over 40 female artists is made by the exhibition curator and/or selection panel, based on the aesthetic strength of each artwork and its quality of execution. Artworks are recent pieces created within the last year. Participants are artists, designers or craft-workers who are either residents, or involved in the arts in the inner west of Sydney.

Great art is being produced in Sydney's Inner West area due to the availability of affordable studio spaces in vacated warehouses in the surrounding industrial estates. But there hasn't been an opportunity like this for artists to show their work to the public and without the MW Salon, we wouldn't be aware of the great stuff being produced right under our noses. Other regions like Sydney's North Shore or Eastern Suburbs have their own art annual art prizes or exhibitions, and it was time to put the Inner West on the visual art map!

I am really excited about this exhibition and inviting female artists to participate. I'm looking forward to celebrating a beautiful, diverse collection of artworks every two years, and to highlighting the talent of our vibrant Inner West art community.

Be sure to mark the Marrickville Women's Salon on your arts calendar every second year!
